Mother’s Day DIY

A sad, sad day is fast approaching. Not Mother’s Day, silly! Saturday.

That’s the day Jason’s parents head back to Maine for the summer.

We are going to miss them so much! Do not let that photo deceive you – Kenton is obsessed with his Meme Fortin. OBSESSED.

Since they’re shipping off before Mother’s Day, we celebrated last night.

It kind-of snuck up on me because I was sick the first half of the week. (Bedridden-super-really-ugly-no-fun-at-all-but-forced-naps-were-nice-and-the-weight-loss-was-also-a-plus, sick). Anyway, the point is, I was left with precious little time to pull together the Pinterest-inspired DIY project I had my heart set on. BUT… it was SO.EASY. Too easy. I just had to share it. YOU can do this! You still HAVE TIME to do this!

SERIOUSLY.

Okay, first get some tote bags.

I got a three-pack at Hobby Lobby for $7.99.

Tape off four quadrants – measure if you must, but I didn’t.

Use stencils for the L and E – or freehand if you’re brave.

I used an Elmer’s “Painters” paint pen and it worked exceptionally well.

Then, it’s time to add the love to your love bag. There are no photos of this part – because it’s a two-parent, all-four-hands-on-deck task. Kenton, however, demonstrates here:

Our model may or may not have been bribed with a dum-dum.

I’ll never tell.

The key to the ‘permanent’ dye staying on the bag and not your sweet child’s skin, is dish soap. Dip their little hands/feet in dish soap than the dye. Most of the dye will rinse off immediately, A day later, we’re still sporting a splash of pink, but it’s getting lighter with every wash.

Hopefully, it’s obvious that the “O” is Kenton’s right hand and the “V” is sweet Camille’s little footsie-wootsies. SO.YUMMY.

Then, let it dry and put another fun present inside. And cards. Moms like cards.

THAT’S IT! Seriously, so easy and so cute.

Kenton LOVED helping with this project and he was so proud of the result. He hand delivered the bags to his Meme and Grandma – so excited to give each to them. This is a great project to do with a young toddler!

These kids. Gosh, they just melt my heart.

I can’t believe they’re mine.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
