We are alive!

It’s amazing how a little nugget of a human being can erase all semblance of time. Do they teach that skill in the womb? I have no idea, but here we are nearly four weeks after her birth, and I thought I’d be back to regular blogging weeks ago. No dice. I’m not going to lie – two under two (or, two under 17 months, to be precise) is no easy task. It’s going to take me a long while to get the hang of this.

Camille is a sweet baby. She is a sweet baby who stays sweet as long as you’re holding her. Put her down, and you see another side. Goodness gracious. That feisty red head’s spirit is already starting to show through. Yikes. But… I prayed for a cuddly baby – so, I guess I got what I asked for! More importantly, she’s healthy – already lapping her birthweight and picking up nearly another pound. Breastfeeding is so much better this time around – she’s a natural and I actually know what I’m doing. Great combo. Kenton is a loving older brother who constantly showers his sister with hugs and kisses. He has moments of wanting mommy to himself, but we’ve managed those so far. Overall, things are great – if only I could teach Kenton how to hold her, I might actually get a few things done – like, blogging!

I am planning to post Camille’s birth story tomorrow. It’s long and wordy – but I know some of you love that stuff and I will love having it to read over and over again myself, like I do with Kenton’s birth story.

But first, I wanted to prove that we’ve actually done a few things in the last few weeks – aside from tending to the eat/sleep/poop regimen of a newborn. Here’s what we’ve been up to:

We made our annual trek to a local pumpkin “patch” (pumpkins don’t grow in the desert, sillies, so it’s more of a pumpkin gathering spot). We first posted about this patch in 2010 (and announced our first pregnancy!). In 2011, we also took a wee little Kenton there. This year, we continued the tradition as a family of four.

Of course, the grandparents couldn’t miss out on the fun. My parents and Jason’s mom were also there.

That was fun – and a bit dusty & dirty. So, Miss Camille had her first bath. (Aren’t you proud that we did manage to accomplish this in her first four weeks of life? I am.)

Turns out, girlfriend LOVES the bath. Therefore, I foresee many baths in her future as this is one moment in time where you are not holding her and she’s not screaming bloody murder about it. But… that’s for another post.

Also, since Camille arrived, her handsome, athletic father completed a 100 mile bike ride, the Faster Gran Fondo.

We camped out along the route – which wound through some gorgeous desert spots – to cheer him on…

Where is daddy?

There he is!

Here he comes across the finish line… you can spot those shoes from a few miles away.

Kenton was very excited to see his daddy…

Cycling enthusiasts will recognize Kenton’s outfit… it’s a World Championship kit that we scored on eBay a while back. The men in our family wholeheartedly embrace spandex.

This is also the spot where we snagged the first photo of our family of four…

…in the beer garden. Classy.

It wasn’t until after this photo was taken, I realized in a panic we never got that, “everyone piled in the hospital bed together” family photo. OOPSIES. Mommy FAIL.

On October 31st, Kenton turned 17 months old…

After his first year photo project was complete, I started taking monthly photos of him in front of this wall on his rocking horse (that was his dad’s). Perhaps, someday, I’ll do a post about those photos.

Also, the 31st was Halloween…

Kenton was a quite ferocious lion…

…who apparently thinks his sister is prey…

…actually, that’s just an over-enthusiastic hug, which happens on a daily basis.

Okay, we’ve actually been up to even more shenanigans (like, my first outing with both kids by ourselves! Yikes.)… somebody’s first haircut (tear!) and a fun family photo shoot… but you’ll have to wait on those. Naptime is almost over…
